Woo hoo! I just had to get the word out that as of today, August 1st, 2006, my wife and I promoted to District Managers with Arbonne International. We started our own home based business with this revolutionary health and wellness company on June 1st and have obviously made progress that we're very pleased with in these two months.
Can I just say that I am SOOOO much happier working from home then I ever was sitting behind a desk from 9:00-5:00 working for someone else? Of course, there are many out there who thrive on the 9:00-5:00, but I am not among them. I'm a bit too much of a free spirit.

Arbonne and the FTC. Are you a criminal?
I just want to start out by saying I get a little heated with the Arbonne thing. I realize this is a pro-Arbonne site and don’t want to start attacks on this blog. I for one am anti-Arbonne only because of my experience with several MLM businesses including Arbonne. I myself did not join Arbonne but rather my wife did. Both my sister in-laws have made great success with the product. Unfortunately like most high level Arbonne rep’s they broke Arbonne policy and FTC laws to get there. Arbonne has made it difficult to get to the top if you follow laws and policy. I should not place just Arbonne by itself on this plate but rather most MLM businesses. I would hope that in the ethics of MLM, people would point possible new consultants to the FTC web site and have them research what is a legitimate MLM and what is not before they sign anyone. Then they are on their own if they choose to sign and conduct a MLM biz after that. Please educate yourself first before entering into a MLM. The fines and jail time that can be imposed is not worth trying to make big profits quick. The Federal Trade Commission is coming down hard on Direct Selling and Multi Level Marketing due to the overwhelming consumer financial loss in these programs. A proposed new bill is out there that may crush these kinds of businesses by turning potential consultants away due to the legal risk involved with MLM and direct sales. As an independent consultant you have the responsibility by law to conduct your business ethically like any other private business owner. You have the responsibility to educate yourself in these laws. The FTC shows no mercy for those who did not know FTC law when they break them. The FTC truly lives by the saying “ignorance is no excuse for the law”. You must also research your local state laws as well. Illinois is pretty tough on MLM’s that may cross certain lines. The penalties are stiff. Unfortunately most people that join these types of businesses are good people looking for a better way in life. Those same people have also been charged with a crime by federal and local law. When you are a criminal people forget that you were a good down to earth church going citizen. One mistake you make in a MLM business that causes a criminal record will hinder future job prospects. Please educate future business partners with laws and ethics before introducing them to the business. You can find FTC laws by this link.

thank you blastingpowder for sharing that information with me. I'm sorry that you've had a negative experience with Arbonne.
I personally see no need in breaking the officialy Arbonne International policies and procedures to grow one's business. The p&p's aren't very strict to begin with.
I was very glad to check into the ftc business opportunity rule #R511993 that you mentioned. However, I think it will pose a vast problem for thousands of families if passed in its current form. It also, unfortunately, further fuels the negative preconception of the Network Marketing Industry as a whole. Are there slick pyramids that need to be regulated and done away with? Yes. But there are MANY mlm's that bring a better quality of life both financially and in health. Arbonne and Young Living are but a couple of this category.

I'd also like to add that Arbonne's chairman and CEO, Bob Henry, is not only a lawyer, but also has over 20 years in the network marketing industry. Obviously, he makes sure Arbonne, like any business, is legal and within the confines of any other regulations and rules.

cat, i'm unsure of why you use "the full Arbonne treatment" in a negative conotation. We have been so very pleased these last five months with our Arbonne business. It seems that you've had a bad experience with someone in Arbonne, I'm terribly sorry for that. It is true that a few bad apples will ruin the whole barrel.
I do thank you for your concern though.
